Several Alabama Baptists will serve on Baptist World Alliance standing committees, divisional committees and BWA commissions during the coming five years.
Serving on standing committees will be Lewis Drummond, professor of evangelism at Beeson Divinity School of Samford University, and Bob Terry, editor of The Alabama Baptist. Drummond will chair the BWA’s memorial committee. Terry will serve as a member of the resolutions committee.
Drummond will also serve as a member of the divisional evangelism and education executive committee as well as on the church renewal workgroup on that committee. Alabamians serving with him on that work group include William O’Brien, retired director of the Global Center at Beeson Divinity School; and Ryan Whitley, pastor of First Baptist Church, Center Point. Timothy George, dean of Beeson Divinity School, will chair the committee’s academic and theological education workgroup. Samford University president Thomas Corts will also serve on the workgroup.
On the evangelism and education committee’s Christian education and literature workgroup will be Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Convention; Philip Wise, pastor of First Baptist Church, Dothan; and Betty (Mrs. Lewis) Drummond, a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills.
Eljee Bentley, a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, will serve on the Baptist World Aid committee.
Terry will serve as vice chairman of the BWA’s divisional communications committee.
Study Commission members include:
-Commission on Doctrine and Interchurch Cooperation — George Wise.
-Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity — Bentley, Corts, Lewis Drummond and Dellanna O’Brien, retired executive of Woman’s Missionary Union.
-Commission on Baptist Worship and Spirituality — Paul Basden, pastor of Brookwood Baptist Church, Mountain Brook; Milburn Price, dean of the school of music, Samford University.
-Commission of Freedom and Justice — William O’Brien, Terry. (TAB)
