On March 7, the congregation of Alberta Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, opened their 100th anniversary celebration with “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” a hymn sung a century ago at their very first service.
At the celebration, the church “focused on God’s faithfulness — what He has done and looking forward to what He has for us,” said Jennifer Mills, Alberta Baptist’s worship minister.
Mills said a highlight of the service was a video produced by John Matthews that showed historical highlights including a clip from a service held in a tent after the church’s building was destroyed by a tornado in 2011.
During the service, David Nelson of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission also presented a plaque to the church.
Kyle Bryant, college minister, and Jared Roggli, student minister, have served as interim pastors during this time. The church is planning more anniversary celebration events in April, June, September and November.
