The Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP) is offering resources to encourage Alabama citizens to pray for the nation during this last week before the Nov. 4 election.
“There are a variety of ways individuals and groups may want to implement this call to prayer,” said Joe Godfrey, executive director of ALCAP. For instance, individuals may want to set aside time each day for personal prayer, or they may want to join with others in their office or with their family for a season of prayer, he noted.
Godfrey suggested churches sponsor round-the-clock prayer vigils in which individuals or small groups agree to pray for one hour during a set period of time. “Southern Baptist leaders have suggested a 40-hour prayer vigil just prior to Election Day,” he explained, noting a guide for the 40-hour prayer time is available on the Current Issues page of ALCAP’s Web site at www.alcap.com.
Churches could also host home prayer meetings throughout their communities, Godfrey added.
Groups could meet in different homes all on one evening or different groups could meet on different evenings leading up to the election. These home prayer meetings should focus on prayer for our nation and for God’s leadership in this election.
