Retired pastor Ernest DeWitt Allen died July 5. He was 82.
A native of Mobile and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Allen was part of the first graduating class of Mobile College (now the University of Mobile). He earned postgraduate degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Luther Rice Seminary in Lithonia, Ga.
Allen served as a pastor for 49 and a half years with full-time pastorates at First Baptist Church, Gulf Shores; Court Street Baptist Church, Montgomery; Brooks Memorial Baptist Church, Atmore; and Robinsonville Baptist Church, Atmore. He also served as interim pastor of 11 churches. In addition to his pastoral ministry, Allen did missions work in Hawaii, Alaska, Jamaica, Brazil, Romania and the Czech Republic.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; one son; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons. (TAB)
