Since the inception of the compact disc, music listeners have enjoyed the freedom of skipping from song to song while avoiding those tracks that do not appeal to their musical preference. When Andrew Peterson was assembling material for his new release, Carried Along, his goal was to create an album people would want to listen to from beginning to end. Peterson has done just that.

Carried Along is one of the most complete Christian albums to have been released in quite some time. Its rich, folk sonorities are coupled with a deep appreciation for the ways in which God shows himself to be all-sufficient in our everyday lives. Peterson displays not only a great deal of musical talent on this album (with the help of his wife, Jamie, and guitarist/ vocalist Gabe Scott), but he also proves he is quite capable of capturing the listener’s attention with lyrical portraits of life-experiences. “The Chasing Song” reflects upon our foolish pursuit of selfishness. “Nothing to Say” is an awe-filled song that tells of the way in which God reveals His majesty through creation. Peterson’s songs reveal how God’s grace is strong enough to reach us in each area of life.

Carried Along could perhaps be one of the year’s best recordings. From beginning to end, the songs will inspire while prodding the listener to reflect on God’s presence in his or her life.
