Jerry Starling retired as pastor of Angel Grove Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
He has been in ministry 51 years, 49 of those years as a senior pastor at six churches, all in Alabama. A native of Dothan, Starling felt called to ministry at age 23. He pursued studies at what is now Baptist College of Florida, Graceville, before graduating from what is now University of Mobile. He received a master’s degree from New Orleans Seminary.
He was pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church, Oxford, for 23 years until his first retirement. Angel Grove Baptist then called him as interim pastor and later asked him to serve as pastor. Thinking back over his years of ministry, Starling said, “It was possible only by the grace of God. It was a great experience.”
He and his wife, Earlene, have three adult children; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
