Anglin retires from 22-year Bessemer pastorate

In 1984, Charles Anglin moved his wife and three daughters from Florida to Alabama, answering a call to serve as pastor of First Baptist Church, Oak Grove, in Bessemer, in Mud Creek Baptist Association.

Once he got there, he just couldn’t bring himself to leave. Anglin recently announced his retirement from First, Oak Grove, the church where he kicked off his ministry as a full-time pastor after graduating from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. But even so, he said he plans to remain an active member of the church. “It has been my privilege … to have served. I dearly love each member of the congregation,” he said.
