Former Director of Missions (DOM) of Sand Mountain Association Charles Edward (Ed) Ashley died Feb. 6. He was 89.
A native of DeKalb County, Ashley served as Sand Mountain DOM from 1970 until 1981.
He received degrees from Samford University, Birmingham, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Ashley served churches in Alabama — including Beechwood Baptist Church, Mount Olive; Valley Head Baptist Church; Shorter Baptist Church and Section Baptist Church — as well as in Texas and Colorado.
While in Colorado, Ashley and his wife started churches under the sponsorship of the Home Mission Board (now the North American Mission Board).
He also served as moderator of Pikes Peak Association in Colorado and on the executive board of the Colorado Baptist General Convention.
At the time of his death, Ashley lived in Rainsville and was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, Rainsville. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Ashley and daughter Martha Williams. (TAB)
