College students have questions, and a Baptist church and Baptist Campus Ministries recently teamed up to host an event where they could ask them.
On Sept. 24, the University of Montevallo BCM and Montevallo First Baptist Church co-sponsored “Ask Anything.” Students and faculty, as well as members of MFBC and area youth, met together at the BCM for a free meal provided by the church. While there, they heard from a panel of guest speakers who sought to answer questions concerning how Christians can engage the culture.
The panel included individuals involved in a variety of ministries and with expertise in various fields including constitutional law, homosexual activism, apologetics and addiction issues. All the panelists focused on how the Bible speaks to the culture and sought to help students, faculty and area residents learn how to navigate turbulent times with a biblical and Christ-centered perspective.
‘A catalyst and encouragement’
Jacob Freeman, Montevallo’s Baptist Campus Minister, moderated the event. Those present were able to anonymously text their questions to Freeman, who then read the questions aloud for the panelists to answer.
The panelists were:
- Greg Davis, president of Alabama Citizens Action Program
- Joe Godfrey, interim pastor of MFBC and retired ALCAP president
- Clete Hux, executive director of the Apologetics Resource Center
- Eric Johnston, director of Southeast Law Institute
- Tommy Littleton, evangelist and adjunct staff of Apologetics Resource Center
- Nate Williams, ALCAP staff
Godfrey said it “was exciting to see how a local Baptist church can partner with the Baptist Campus Ministries to address moral issues from a biblical perspective.”
“We would hope that not only can MFBC and the Montevallo BCM cohost similar events in the future but also serve as a catalyst and encouragement to other churches and Baptist Campus Ministries throughout the state to cohost events like this one,” he said.
