Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Athens, celebrated its centennial Sept. 14 with about 80 family and friends.
The Limestone Baptist Association church combined its anniversary with its yearly homecoming celebration, according to Sandra Riley, who serves as the church treasurer and helped plan the event.
In the morning service former pastor Jerry Smith, who had served the church for 16 years, shared a message. Nancy Beasley, Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative, presented Pastor Scotty Travis with a commemorative plaque. A homecoming meal followed with special music by Evening Praise.
“It was a very pleasant day,” Riley said, who noted there also was a rededication during the morning service. (Neisha Fuson)
