You won’t find Carey Lewis Kite checking his watch during church to see if the sermon’s going long this Sunday morning.
Kite, 99, sits in his pew, smiles and says he would just as soon stay at Auburn Heights Baptist Church. Phenix City- the place where he found Christ in June at age 98- as be anywhere else.
Sloan Adams, Kite’s granddaughter, said the retired bus driver and longtime Alabama resident had spent all of his 98 years without a belief in the lordship of Jesus Christ.
For seven months, Sloan shared her faith repeatedly with Kite, finally taking him to see Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion of the Christ.”
On June 27, Kite asked Sloan to take him to church with her, and he prayed to receive Christ as Savior there at Auburn Heights that morning.
Nearly a month later, wearing denim overalls and a flannel shirt, he was baptized – and met with tears and a standing ovation.
“I’m so happy,” Kite said. “I’m just so happy.”
