Lakeview Baptist Church, Auburn, celebrated 50 years of service to its community with a Founder’s Day Celebration on Sept. 27.
But the milestone was not just marked by one day. The Tuskegee Lee Baptist Association church honored this momentous occasion all year long with weekly historical highlights and PowerPoint presentations about ministries and leaders.
Robert Hughes, professor of missions and evangelism at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Ky., has been drafted to write a full history of the church, which will be available in 2010.
Founder’s Day events included a special recognition of charter members and former pastors and a barbecue dinner following the worship service.
The year is extra special for Al Jackson, who is celebrating his 30th year as pastor of Lakeview Baptist.
“It’s been an honor for me to serve this congregation for these 30 years,” Jackson said. “This is an extraordinary congregation of men, women and children that love Jesus, believe the Bible and have a passion to get the gospel to the nations.”
He holds a doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., and master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Jackson and his wife of 37 years, Kem, have three children and seven grandchildren.
