The Baptist Foundation of Alabama (BFA) experienced growth, improvements and accomplishments during the past year, Barry Bledsoe, director of BFA, told messengers at the state convention annual meeting Nov. 19.
“The year 2003 has been an outstanding year for the Baptist Foundation of Alabama according to any measure you use,” Bledsoe said.
Over the past two years, BFA has gone through a transition period that focused on becoming as technologically and academically sound as any comparable agency in the secular sector, Bledsoe said.
“This enables us to be better ministers and stewards,” he said.
BFA also increased its accountability standards in order to join the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. According to the Book of Reports, BFA is one of only 1,110 Christian nonprofits that can claim this privilege.
“Your foundation is trying to do everything it can to make sure it stays on the right path,” Bledsoe said.
BFA has also experienced a record year of gifts from Alabama Baptists. According to the Book of Reports, BFA took in $16.7 million in new gifts and funds under management.
Bledsoe said the foundation is continuing to focus on educating Alabama Baptists as to ways they can continually give to charitable causes through BFA.
Randy Driggers, BFA director of development, said, “Over the past two years, we’ve structured ourselves to be a resource for all Alabama Baptists.
“Our role is all across the spectrum, helping people discover ways of charitable giving and implementing those.”
