Beasley-Murray, George

GREAT BRITAIN — George Beasley-Murray, 83, of Great Britain was remembered as a leading Baptist scholar, pastor and denominational leader at a thanksgiving service in his memory March 3 at Holland Baptist Church, Hove. He died the week before after suffering a major stroke in early February.

Beasley-Murray was principal of Spurgeons College 1958-73 and also taught at Baptist Theological Seminary in Ruschlikon, Switzerland, and Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was president of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, 1968-69. He was author of a Baptist classic, “Baptism in the New Testament” (1962). In recent years, he had taught some courses at International Baptist Theological Seminary, Prague.
