Timothy George (right), founding dean of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School, presented the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award to S. Wayne Shelton (left), pastor of New Temple Baptist Church, Dora, in Sulphur Springs Baptist Association.
Described by George as “a pastor who can preach,” Shelton received his master of divinity degree from Beeson in 1993 and is currently working on his doctorate in ministry from Reformed Theological Seminary. He has served churches in Alabama, Florida and Georgia and currently serves as an instructor in the Sulphur Springs Institute of the Samford Extension Division. He and his wife, Michelle, have three daughters.
“Our faculty remember him as one of our finest students, a real scholar of the Word and a great preacher of the gospel,” George said. “He has served as an exemplary shepherd-leader in several congregations.” (SU)
