Someone You Should Know — Jane Bellew

Jane Bellew is someone you should know because she is the secretary of the board of directors for The Alabama Baptist.

Q: Why did you begin serving in this position?
A: Dr. Terry came to our church as interim pastor and he called and asked if I would be on the board. I felt most unworthy but most humbled to be asked to serve on such a wonderful committee.

Q: What does this activity demand of you?
A: It demands several weekends a year and also keeping up with the activities of the paper and writing the minutes. I also do the decorating when its time for our conferences. It demands time which is not a demand, it’s a pleasure.

Q: What do you get out of serving on the board?
A: Joy, a sense of doing good for other Baptists in the state. It helps me understand the needs and concerns for not just the members of my church but for members throughout the state. It also gives me a sense of pride to be affiliated with such an influential group of people.

Q: How do your family members support you?
A: My family supports me 100 percent. My husband sets aside the two times the board meetings are held during the year to accompany me and assist me with the details.

Q: How do you see yourself involved with this in the future?

A: I see myself involved wherever they ask me to serve. I made a commitment when I said yes. Whatever task is asked of me, I will gladly serve in that area.

Q: What difference will the activity make for you in the future?
A: It’s made me a stronger Christian. It’s made me more understanding of the overall picture of my Baptist faith.
