Bessemer church reaches community through kindness

To share the love of Jesus around Valentine’s Day, the members of Canaan Baptist Church, Bessemer, in Bessemer Baptist Association were encouraged to practice Intentional Evangelism by participating in Hearts 4 U.

Individuals joined about 20 different Sunday School classes and children and youth small groups in practicing random acts of kindness in their community Feb. 4–11.

Led by Pastor Morgan Bailey, groups sent Valentine’s cards to widows and widowers, provided a care package for military personnel in Kuwait and bought a meal for a person behind them in the drive-through line, among other acts, said Charles Teague, associate pastor of education and administration.

"The list continues to build, but the intention was to tell people that there are people in their community that are concerned and love them," Teague said. "Hopefully they will know we do care and this church family ‘practices what they preach [and] teach.’" (TAB)
