Bethlehem Baptist celebrates 150th anniversary

Bethlehem Baptist Church, Centreville, in Bibb Baptist Association, celebrated its 150th anniversary May 27.

The guest speaker for the service was George Harris, who grew up in Bethlehem Baptist, and special music was performed by Jon Ray Ministries. Former choir members joined in leading worship in the afternoon service.

Angie Cooper from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented a certificate to the church.

Old church minutes and Vacation Bible School scrapbooks were displayed. More than 500 photos documenting the history of the church scrolled on a monitor at the back of the church.

Church member Robert Poe thought the day went great. “It was fantastic,” he said. “It went better than expected.”

Poe read a letter from Gov. Kay Ivey and a proclamation sponsored by state senator Cam Ward to the congregation.

An old-fashioned dinner on the grounds was served following the service. Tom Conroy is pastor.
