BGCT begins endorsing chaplains

DALLAS — The Baptist General Convention of Texas has endorsed its first chaplains after deciding to become an endorsing agency in the wake of changes in Southern Baptist regulations.

The new endorsement board of the BGCT voted unanimously to grant transfer of endorsement from other Baptist entities to 39 chaplains and three pastoral counselors, the convention announced.

Thirty-six men and six women were endorsed at the Sept. 23 meeting. Forty-one had previously been endorsed by the Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board and one had been endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

The chaplains include 22 in health care, 10 in the military, six involved in restorative justice and one serving in business and industry.
