William “Bill” Gilmore has been named director of advertising for The Alabama Baptist.
Gilmore comes to the staff with more than 10 years experience in newspaper advertising sales and sales management. He has worked for The Montgomery Advertiser and The Times Daily in Florence. His most recent newspaper position was with The Meridian Star in Mississippi.
“Bill is an experienced professional in the newspaper world,” said Bob Terry, editor and president of The Alabama Baptist. “He has a vast amount of experience from which to draw as he leads the state Baptist paper to better serve readers with appropriate advertising for products and services that can be helpful to them.
“He is an active Alabama Baptist and knows many parts of the state from having worked in newspapers that reached Alabama readers in various parts of the state,” Terry noted. “The Lord has blessed us with great people in the advertising department but no one brought with them the experience and knowledge in newspaper advertising that Bill brings. We look forward to working with him.”
Gilmore, a member of Highland Baptist Church, Florence, said, “Joining The Alabama Baptist family is a tremendous blessing for me and my family.
“I’m looking forward to working with businesses located here in Alabama as well as outside the state to connect with our more than 200,000 weekly readers and help them grow their businesses.”
Gilmore, who began his new position Feb. 1, fills the slot vacated by Brian Giles, who accepted a position in the office of student media at the University of Alabama.
