Birmingham choirs join to hold concert supporting M-POWER

Eight Birmingham choirs will perform Sing and Shout, a concert supporting M-POWER Ministries, March 5 at the the city’s Alys Stephens Center.

The concert will feature the choirs separately and as a 400-voice combined choir. The event will take place in the center’s Jemison Concert Hall at 6 p.m. “This is our first-ever event like this,” Ryan Hankins, executive director of M-POWER, said.

M-POWER is a faith-based social services ministry in Birmingham. It has an interdenominational coalition of supporters including Birmingham Baptist Association (BBA), BBA churches and the North American Mission Board.

Between choirs, speakers will share stories about their involvement with M-POWER.

Participating choirs include: from BBA — Eastside Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, Shades Crest Baptist Church, Sixth Avenue Baptist Church and Vestavia Hills Baptist Church; Episcopal Cathedral Church of the Advent; Independent Presbyterian Church; and Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.

“I think it is a great chance to hear some great music and participate in worship,” Hankins said.

Tickets are available in advance or at the door. For information call  205-595-5959 or visit www.mpowerministries.org. (TAB)
