Birmingham’s Creech resigns to join hospital

Birmingham Baptist Association (BBA) Director of Missions (DOM) Ricky Creech announced his resignation July 10 to take a new position with Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham.

Creech, who has served as DOM since 1997, resigned effective July 31 to become the chief culture officer for the hospital, which is a joint venture between Triad Hospitals Inc. and Baptist Health System in Birmingham.
“As chief culture officer, I will be working closely with my fellow employees to develop a culture of serving,” he said in a statement released by Trinity July 11.

“I believe this is an awesome opportunity to live my faith out and to be a leader and model of what I’ve been teaching,” he continued. “My goal is to take the mission off the walls and invade the hearts of our people.”

Vicki Briggs, chief executive officer of Trinity, explained that Creech’s position was created to focus on the hospital’s relationships and mission. He will be responsible for the hospital’s pastoral care program, pastoral advisory council, mission integration committee, patient advocates, organizational development, community outreach and governmental relations.

“For years, it has bothered me that the one item missing from the balance sheet of a hospital is the equity of human capital,” Briggs said. “Those relationships are incredibly valuable.

“In Ricky, we have found an individual who can help us continue to strengthen our faith-based mission while developing our values of integrity, compassion, advocacy, resourcefulness and excellence,” she added.

A native of Barnwell, S.C., Creech holds degrees from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

He is pursuing his doctorate in organizational transformation at Trinity College and Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Ind.

Prior to serving as DOM of BBA, Creech served as associate director of church and community missions with the association. He also served as director of church and community ministries with Montgomery Baptist Association, a family shelter caseworker in Louisville, Ky., and a teaching assistant at Southern Seminary.

“I am very excited about this next chapter in my journey,” he said. “I truly believe that we can make an impact and a difference with our people.”  (TAB)
