Birmingham’s Fellowship Church gets face-lift

Fellowship Baptist Church, Birmingham, has had an active four months.

Since September, the Birmingham Baptist Association church’s landscape and facilities have expanded to include a steeple, community “prayer walk” walking track and playground, prayer garden, cross fastened to the building’s exterior and prayer room.

“We’re getting the building ready for people,” said Pastor Ron Reed. “And it’s all to the glory of God. That’s the key to it all.”

After coming to the more than 40-year-old church in July, Reed saw many opportunities for additions and improvements. So the congregation established a temporary committee responsible for accomplishing these tasks, whether personally or through contract labor.

“It’s exciting to see people using their gifts and talents in the church to get these things done,” Reed said. “And most of it has been done by the church.”

Fellowship Baptist has also developed a Web site — www.fellowshipbaptistchurch.biz — to reach even more people.

“To me, it’s a marketing tool that will help people to know who we are and where we are,” Reed said. “It’s just another form of outreach and networking.”

Reed said he hopes these additions can be utilized by the community, allowing church members to minister through relationships.

“Our No. 1 (goal) is that He may be glorified in everything we do and also to draw people to the Lord Jesus Christ,” Reed said.
