“The Board of Aid came right when I needed it most,” said Ivy Kastner, a junior at Judson College. “And as a result, God has used Judson in a mighty way in my life.”
Kastner, who worked to pay her way through Judson as a freshman, is one of 291 undergraduates awarded a total of $204,819 in scholarships this year by the Board of Aid for Students in Church-Related Vocations.
The Board of Aid provides monetary assistance to students preparing for church-related vocations at Alabama’s three Baptist institutions of higher learning — Samford University, Judson College and the University of Mobile.
“The 16 members of the board have the privilege to meet, counsel, pray with and minister to some of the best students in our state,” said Jerome King, who serves as chairman of the Board of Aid.
To qualify for aid, students apply and are interviewed each semester by a member of the board. Scholarships are then awarded on the basis of need, income, indebtedness and active involvement in an Alabama Baptist church.
This year’s selected students received between 12.5 percent and 13.5 percent of their tuition in financial aid from the board.
Kastner said she prays God will use her to make an impact. “I’ve been given more than just a wonderful academic education,” Kastner said.
“God has taught me patience at Judson, and He’s used Judson to mold me into the woman God has wanted me to be.”
