Bill W. King. Wheaton, Ill., OakTara Publishers, 2013. 157 pp. (Paperback).
I reviewed one of this author’s books a while back. You may know his character — Billy Bob Bohannon. He’s a little goofy. The book, as I recall, was pretty funny. This one, on the other hand, was not funny. Not at all. But then, it wasn’t meant to be.
In a radical departure from his comic alter ego, Bill King has written a thriller. I put off reading it for a while, because everyone thinks he can write fiction, but few can. How could I tell Billy Bob his book is a stinker? Fortunately I didn’t need to — it was really good. I was engaged from beginning to end and never figured out what was coming from one scene to the next.
Here is the premise for the story: The main character, a pastor, wakes up to find himself bound and in a strange room with no idea where he is or how he got there. As he thinks back over recent events, he tries to figure out who did this to him. I won’t spoil the story by recounting any more details, but even though most of the book is written in flashbacks, it moves along well. If you want an entertaining thriller written from a Christian worldview, this is your book.
