In thousands of sermons, lessons, books and discussions, Christians have heard that love is the essential quality of the Christian life.
But Ed Jordan’s book, “Doing Love! It Can Change Your Life!”, seeks to be more than a study of biblical truths about love. He has written a practical guide for developing, deepening and displaying love more effectively in current relationships and beyond.

Jordan is pastor of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church on Gwynn’s Island in Virginia. He received MDiv. and DMin. degrees from Golden Gate Baptist Theological (now Gateway) Seminary in California and has served churches in Nevada, Texas and Idaho. He also was an International Mission Board missionary in Hungary (1991–2002).
Through 11 concise chapters, Jordan takes the reader through an overview of biblical teaching and helpful guidance about implementing love in simple and effective ways.
His goal is that “you will find doing loving things becoming a natural expression of who you are as a person.”
‘Three circles’
Jordan takes readers through “three circles” of relationships: the inner circle of family or roommates, the middle circle of church or group members, and the outer circle of acquaintances or strangers.
“Love is learned by doing love, by putting your love into action,” Jordan writes. He surveys many Scripture passages and gives clear explanations that show ways love can be displayed. He applies these observations repeatedly through the three circles, especially focusing on 1 Corinthians 13, as might be expected.
Gaining clarity
Readers will gain clarity about the meaning of the terms used by the Apostle Paul, Jesus and others in the Bible.
The book is very understandable even for those with little background in the Bible. I believe an individual, small group or Sunday School class would benefit by studying the teaching in this volume.
