Book to show work of Baptist photojournalist

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — The Baptist History & Heritage Society, in cooperation with Fields Publishing, is releasing the new book “Light: The Photojournalism of Don Rutledge.” Rutledge, a retired photojournalist of both secular and Christian publications, has worked in 143 countries and all 50 states.

Rutledge particularly distinguished himself for 30 years as the photojournalist who took to new levels of quality two Southern Baptist publications — Home Missions magazine of the Home Mission Board (now the North American Mission Board) and The Commission magazine of the Foreign Mission Board (now the International Mission Board). The book focuses heavily on world missions in Baptist life. It includes numerous black-and-white photographs taken by Rutledge in countries around the world. The text, by Robert O’Brien, tells Rutledge’s life story and includes photo captions.

“Don Rutledge single-handedly changed the nature of photography within the Southern Baptist Convention,” said Walker Knight, the editor of Home Missions who hired Rutledge as the publication’s acclaimed photojournalist.
