Jubilee 2
Daywind
Greater Vision, the Booth Brothers and Legacy Five combine to create a male choir for “Jubilee 2,” the second release in a series of recordings honoring the style of music popularized on “The Gospel Singing Jubilee” TV program.
The liner notes indicate specific combinations of voices for each song. The three tenors are listed on “Sing Me a Song About Jesus” for their featured verse, but Glenn Dustin isn’t credited for his featured lines on the choruses. Similarly the three baritones are featured on the second verse of “I’m Free Again,” but again Dustin is not credited. I suppose the logic may be that Dustin is technically part of the ensemble, even though he’s the only one singing those lines. “When I Wake Up to Sleep No More” also has a mix of singers on the second verse with the full choir singing the rest of the song.
Five of the remaining songs feature specific groups. Another pairs the Booth Brothers with Legacy Five, and two songs showcase the full choir. Legacy Five sing “I Never Shall Forget the Day” and Henry Slaughter’s classy “Every Day.” Greater Vision deliver “My House Is Full” and “When They Ring the Bells of Heaven.” The Booth Brothers sing an a cappella arrangement that combines “Crown Him King” with “He’s My King.” All three groups unite for “Jesus Is Coming Soon” and for the only recently written song on the CD, Rodney Griffin’s “Undeserving.” The Booth Brothers join with Legacy Five for smooth harmony on “Don’t Hang Your Head and Cry,” the CD’s best vocal moment.
