Retired Alabama Baptist pastor Taylor Bowers died Jan. 4 following a lengthy illness. He was 87.
Bowers, who was living in Kingsport, Tenn., at the time of his death, was a veteran who served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and the Air Force in Korea.
After working for Proctor and Gamble, he served churches in Florida and Washington. In 1966, Bowers moved to Alabama to serve as church administrator and minister of education for Huffman Baptist Church, Birmingham, in Birmingham Baptist Association.
He served there for 17 years, becoming the associate pastor and church administrator before retiring in December 1983 to move to Minter. Shortly after the move, the pastorate of Carlowville Baptist Church, Minter, Selma Baptist Association became vacant, and Bowers answered the call to fill that position. He served as pastor for 20 years. Bowers retired in July 2004 to move to Kingsport to be closer to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Melba; one son; a daughter-in-law; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister-in-law. (TAB)
