Brewster Road celebrates 100 years as church

Brewster Road Baptist Church, Birmingham, celebrated its 100th anniversary with homecoming June 2.

After a special morning service with the message delivered by guest preacher Keith Wrenn, visitors were invited to a luncheon and a singing with Dale Smalley.

Wrenn was Brewster Road pastor from 1994 to 1997. “Brewster Road is a tremendous church with a lot of potential and a lot of good people,” he said. “I was really honored to be able to go back and be a part of that service.”

Current pastor Eric House, who has been at Brewster Road since 1999, also spoke during the service.

In looking toward the future, House says he hopes the church can continue to fulfill the call of Philippians 3:12, “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”

“God has a purpose for us. Hopefully we will fulfill the purpose,” he said.

Attendance on any given Sunday at Brewster Road averages 200, but 450 attended this homecoming anniversary.
