A three-in-one team from Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn arrived July 22 for a week of ministry. This 15-member group taught us how to use ceremonies and ordinances as evangelistic tools, person (lay) evangelism and “Sex, Lies and the Truth.” Each of these training sessions had a special cultural significance.
In Lomweland, ceremonies are still held to honor ancestral spirits. It is believed that a correctly performed funeral will all but guarantee that the departed loved one’s spirit does not torment you.
Brother Al and Brother Jonas will teach our church leaders and members how they can evangelize the large crowds attracted to such events.
In our area, evangelism is thought of as the pastor’s and missionary’s job, so the evangelism team will encourage the average church member to share his faith on a regular basis.
Our “Sex, Lies and the Truth” team will face head-on the challenge of a society where polygamy and adultery are acceptable and AIDS is wiping out an entire generation.
