We Won’t Be Shaken

Coming on the heels of last year’s smash “Where I Belong,” a song that garnered Billboard magazine’s No. 1 Christian song for 2012 and BMI’s Song of the Year for 2013, Building 429 continues to push forward with their latest release, “We Won’t Be Shaken.” If what I hear on Christian radio is any indication, the new album’s first single and title cut may prove to be just as big a hit for the band.
Produced by the formidable duo of Jason Ingram and Rob Hawkins and recorded with the entire band playing (yes, together) in the studio, Building 429 has created a record that serves their existing fan base quite well, while at the same time plowing fertile new ground that will certainly expand their influence in the Christian music world. Their stated mantra for this record — “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” — sounded at first to me a little egotistical. But after a quick listen, it became apparent these guys knew exactly where they were going, and I don’t doubt they’ve made exactly the record they set out to make.
Building 429’s frontman Jason Roy described the new album this way: “We really felt like we wanted to make a record that said, ‘Stand up. You have been called. We are God’s children. Who can stand against what God has begun?’ If you listen to the record you find that there’s a bit of bravado in it, but it’s bravado from a standpoint of we don’t have to always talk about how weak we are because His strength is made perfect in our weakness. This record says, ‘God is going to use us and we are not going to fail.’”
He’s certainly confident and probably right. Recommended.
