BWAid gives funds to state Katrina relief efforts

WASHINGTON — Baptist World Aid (BWAid), the relief and development arm of the Baptist World Alliance, has made $75,000 available — $25,000 each to the Baptist state conventions in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi — to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Hungarian Baptists have also been asked to support the search and rescue operation. Hungarian Baptist Aid (HBAid) has worked with BWAid in many emergency situations around the world.

After Katrina hit, HBAid staffer David Gal and rescue coordinator Laszlo Pavelcze headed to the United States to work alongside teams of North Carolina Baptist Men. A team of five from BWAid Rescue24 International Team was also set to come from Hungary.
