Longtime Alabama pastor Culon P. “C.P.” Davis died July 17, 2024, in Hanceville. He was 94.
Davis was the father of five when he was saved and called into the ministry at age 23. His ordination at Goodman Baptist Church in Enterprise was the beginning of a journey for him and his growing family that took them to churches around the state and eventually to Birmingham for his education.
He was a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University), as well as New Orleans and Luther Rice seminaries. He served as pastor of several churches in Alabama and a few congregations in Florida. He also wrote for a number of Southern Baptist publications.
Davis was proceeded in death by his wife, Margaret Bradley Davis, and two sons, Chris and Paul Davis. He is survived by four daughters: Jane Hooten, Betty Ann Fox, Phyllis Bice and Susan Jefferys; and three sons: Jimmy Davis, Timothy Nathan Davis and David Lamar Davis; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
