George W. Cagle serves as a deacon and an adult men’s Sunday School teacher at New Bethel Baptist Church, Collinsville. He goes visiting every Tuesday night and is very concerned about the lost people in his community. He also helps take care of the needs of the church facilities by mowing the lawn and assisting with repairs.
Q: What led you to serve in these various capacities in the church?
A: I feel God calls people to be a deacon, and I’ve served in that area 30 years or longer. If you have a talent to teach, then you should teach. That is one of the talents I feel like I have, and I have been teaching around 40 years. I feel like we all need to serve in some capacity if we go to the church. Everyone has a gift and talent. I get a blessing from serving, and I enjoy what I do.
Q: What does the visiting ministry demand?
A: It demands that you know the Bible, in regards to witnessing. It takes time but it’s well worth it.
Q: What difference has serving the Lord made in your life?
A: It makes all the difference in the world to be involved in regular worship of our Lord and Savior and then to have the privilege to share Him with someone. I try to share Christ every opportunity I have.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in ministry in the future?
A: I believe we are called until we die. I don’t see anywhere in the Bible where a Christian can just retire and sit down. We are called to do God’s work until we are called home. The main purpose is to see someone come to know Christ.
