Ellis Bush, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Troy, since 2004, recently celebrated 65 years in ministry.
Bush, who was ordained by Southside Baptist Church, Troy, in September 1947, served as interim pastor of several churches in Alabama, Indiana and Kentucky. He was interim pastor of First Baptist Church, Troy; Bush Memorial Baptist Church, Troy; First Baptist Church, Luverne; and Salem Baptist Church, Brundidge. He also served as the executive director of First Baptist Church, Shreveport, La.
Bush attended Troy University and later graduated from Howard College (now Samford University in Birmingham) in 1951. He earned his bachelor of divinity degree and master of theology degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Samford University honored him with a doctor of divinity degree in 1972.
Bush also served as the Baptist Sunday School Board editor; the Alabama State Sunday School director; Baptist Convention of Pennsylvania/South Jersey executive director; Bold Mission Thrust Promotion Plan executive committee member and LifeWay Resources executive committee member.
Bush and his wife, Juanita, have four children and five grandchildren.
