OTTAWA, Canada — A Canadian broadcasting regulation panel has ruled that radio talk show host Dr. Laura’s controversial statements about homosexuals have violated national broadcasting ethics codes.
The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council announced Laura Schlessinger’s on-air claims that homosexual activity is “abnormal” and “deviant” violates the human rights provision of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ code of ethics, The Associated Press reported.
The decision requires Canadian networks that broadcast the syndicated show to air during prime time hours public announcements that notify the public of the council’s decision.
