Carpenter, David T.

Retired Alabama pastor David T. Carpenter died Dec. 4. He was 89.

Carpenter spent 47 years in church ministry, retiring in 2008 as part-time pastor of Perdido Beach Baptist Church, Elberta.

He served as full-time pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Owassa (1967–1969); Round Island Baptist Church, Athens (1969–1972); Temple Baptist Church, Adamsville (1972–1974); Concord Baptist Church, Calera (1974–1980); Akron Baptist Church (1980–1981); and First Baptist Church, Orange Beach (1981–1983).

After leaving First, Orange Beach, Carpenter served as interim pastor at several Alabama churches as well as churches in Alaska and England.

He also did missions work in India.

Carpenter, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, left his job as an electrical engineer for NASA to pursue a call to ministry in the early 1960s. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1967.

Throughout his life, he also served as a ham radio operator for disaster relief.

At the time of his death, Carpenter was a member of Maytown Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eloise; five children; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. (TAB)
