Alabama native Lennie Acuff has been named the head coach for the Samford University men’s basketball program, the university announced Wednesday (April 9).
In his five years as Samford’s coach, Bucky McMillan led the team to four 20-win seasons. Samford president Beck Taylor said they were “indebted” to him for “reestablishing the Samford men’s basketball program’s tradition of excellence.”
Samford University has received a grant of $5 million — the largest single grant in the university’s 183-year history — from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Ministry in Rural Areas and Small Towns Initiative.
Lee Allen, who served as a history professor at Samford University for 40 years, died Dec. 16. During his time at Samford, he was a prolific writer, particularly of Baptist history. He was also named Life Deacon at Mountain Brook Baptist.
