Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen encouraged civic participation during a Nov. 14 ALCAP lunch held in conjunction with the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
This year’s Week of Prayer for International Missions, set for Dec. 3–10, kicks off the season of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, which this year has a national goal of $200 million and a goal of $12 million for Alabama.
Craig Carlisle, director of missions for Etowah Baptist Association, was elected president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention during the Nov. 15 morning session of the 2023 annual meeting.
Neal Hughes said one of the churches in his association — Pike Road Baptist — was in despair a while back. It was hard to for them see a vision for the future when, after a rich history, their congregation had declined from 300 to 15.
Buddy Champion said Moses had a lot of interesting chapters in his story. He was orphaned, anger-filled and struggled at times to speak well — but God still used him in a mighty way.
“Take everything off of your worry list tonight and put it all on your prayer list,” he said. “Every time you are tempted to worry, stop and take that matter to God in prayer … you really can pray your worries away.”
“The doctrine of Christ’s ascension is fuel for perseverance,” Mason said. “Psalm 2 says He who sits in the heavens laughs, and the New Testament comes along and says He who sits in the heavens has a name — Jesus Christ.”
During the opening session of the Alabama Baptist Pastors Conference at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Jared Wilson spoke on the sustaining grace of God.
