Centre church keeps high attendance

Pine Grove Baptist Church, Centre, proved you don’t have to be a big church to put up some big Vacation Bible School (VBS) registration numbers. The church was one of several Alabama churches whose VBS attendance was double that of their Sunday worship attendance.

John Pollard, long-time VBS director and wife of Pastor Ricky Pollard, said the church, which averages 300 in worship, registered 600 participants during its VBS June 6-10. This is consistent with the attendance of the past several years, noted Ricky Pollard.

“Every year, we’ve just tried to add more things and more people,” he said. “It’s something God’s led us to do and He’s really blessed it.”

Joan Pollard said the church makes sure the area knows it’s time for VBS. They do a mass mailing to residents of Centre and send invitations to each child that attended the previous year. Centre Elementary School allows them to pass out fliers on the last day of school. They also pick up children around the community in buses and vans.

She noted that while there was an adult class of 10, most of the church’s adults are teaching, with approximately 125 men and women working during VBS.

Even with all these good numbers, Ricky Pollard said the most exciting number was 55- 55 salvation decisions.
