In an effort to try something new and provide an alternative to Vacation Bible School, Liberty Baptist Church, Chelsea, hosted its first children’s sports camp.
Infinity Sports, a Nashville-based sports-ministry organization helping equip people to share Christ through sports, organized the XLR8 sports camp held at the Shelby Baptist Association church June 15–19.
Infinity Sports also sent a team of college-age students and young adults to lead the camp, which focused on the theme “Made to Play,” based on Psalm 139:14.
Using the word “play” as an acronym, the Infinity Sports team shared with the children that “we should prepare, listen, act and yield in everything that we do in order to play for His glory,” said Laura Cain, director of children and preteen ministry at Liberty Baptist.
There were 90 children who participated in the camp, one-third of them were from outside the church. By the end of the week, there were four salvation decisions.
“By Friday, nobody wanted to leave. We all had tears in our eyes,” Cain said.
