Run the Earth — Watch the Sky
Rocketown Records
The title of Chris Rice’s latest release “Run the Earth — Watch the Sky” is very intriguing. It implies living life to the fullest while anticipating the return of Christ. This philosophy is thematically carried throughout the album as Rice ponders his own life experiences in the past, present and future.
One thing that I have always appreciated about Chris Rice is his knack for making the simplest thoughts seem profound and pregnant with meaning. “Other Side of the Radio” ponders the connection a song might create between a recording artist and listeners. “8th Grade” reminds us of God’s faithfulness while posing the question and response “Why does the past always seem safer/ Maybe because at least we know we made it.”
Chris Rice proves once again that the experiences of life can not only make great material for songs, but they also can teach us so much about our relationship with God as He is with us in the midst of real life. “Run the Earth — Watch the Sky” is probably Rice’s most personal project thus far, but it is sure to connect with many others as they consider the presence and activity of God in their own lives.
