Reflecting on the Christ-centered life, Joshua del Risco expounded on the joy and riches believers have.
The pastor of Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva in Fultondale told participants at the Alabama Baptist State Convention that the Apostle Paul “wanted his readers to understand the wealth they had in Christ Jesus.” Del Risco addressed “Christ-Centered,” the annual meeting theme, and Colossians 1:17–18.
“Paul reminds us as Christ-centered believers, we have it all.”
Thinking about the theme, del Risco said, brought to mind a reality TV show — “The Fabulous Life of … ” which followed celebrities with a lavish lifestyle.
“‘Custom-made’ was a given and VIP treatment was nonstop,” del Risco recalled. “There are many believers who are always looking for something more, to be able to say, ‘I have a fabulous life.’”
‘A time of change’
“We live in a time of change,” he noted. “Our culture is changing. We’re moving into an anti-biblical, anti-Christian culture.
“We as believers are bombarded constantly by the fiery darts of the devil,” del Risco lamented. “Unfortunately there are many Christians who don’t realize what they have in Jesus Christ.”
He said a Christ-centered life involves “a lifestyle where they see Christ. We should be filled with joy, my brothers and sisters.”
Because of their relationship with Christ, believers should be joyful, grateful people, del Risco asserted, noting the “virus” of ungratefulness in the current culture.
“As believers, we have everything we need,” he declared. “For me, the Christ-centered life is a fabulous life. It’s a life where the Lord is with us every moment.”
Del Risco also has served with the North American Mission Board and Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, where he was hired as a church planter.
