For those in ministry there are often innumerable needs pressing in on this side and pushing there on that side. Sometimes a minister just needs a community that understands his or her stresses and struggles in ministry.
That’s exactly why Alabama Baptist Religious Education Association (ABREA) was created — for those who serve in the area of adult Christian education and/or discipleship.
Networking opportunities
Started more than 40 years ago, ABREA “exists to provide fellowship, continuing education and networking opportunities for staff members of Southern Baptist churches,” according to its website.
Randy Lamon, minister of education/administration at Gilliam Springs Baptist Church, Arab, also serves as ABREA president.
“Our desire (through ABREA) is to assist in Kingdom work by helping those who build the local church to be more effective as they seek to reach people and make disciples,” Lamon said, noting there are currently more than 100 active ABREA members.
One training and fellowship opportunity through ABREA is the organization’s annual gathering. The 2016 Gathering will be held Jan. 28–29 at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, Athens, and will feature guest speaker Bruce Raley, director of church education ministry at LifeWay Christian Resources. The event also will host David Garrard, minister to children for St. Matthews Baptist Church, Louisville, Kentucky, and traveling magician.
To register for the gathering, email Lamon at rlamon@gilliamsprings.org or Chuck Ashley (treasurer) at cashley@montgomeryfbc.org by Jan. 18, 2016.
