Christian group 4Him to headline University of Mobile’s ‘StarLight’

Christian music artist 4Him will be the headliner for the third annual “StarLight at the University of Mobile,” an outdoor music festival with a family atmosphere.

Designed as a way to showcase students in the University of Mobile’s (UM) Center for Performing Arts, the event will spotlight 11 student music groups while featuring performances by 4Him and Alicia Williamson Garcia.

The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. April 12 on the campus of the University of Mobile.

Audience members are encouraged to arrive early and should bring chairs or blankets to the lawn in front of the outdoor stage at Martin Hall. During the past two years, more than 5,000 people have attended StarLight.

“The fast-paced show to be presented at ‘StarLight’ will include something for everybody, including theatre, jazz, pop and even a bit of opera. We want the community to see the talent of our students and give our students the experience of performing in front of a large audience,” said Roger Breland, director of UM’s Center for Performing Arts.

In their 13 years together, 4Him has garnered 24 No. 1 singles, eight Dove Awards including song of the year, album of the year and four group of the year awards. The Grammy-nominated 4Him recently completed its landmark 10th studio album, “Visible.”

Alicia is a nationally known worship leader and Dove Award nominee whose latest album “We Win!” was recorded live at Christ Tabernacle in Queens, N.Y. Alicia Williamson Garcia lives in Mobile and previously directed UM’s touring ensemble VISION.

She has six albums to her credit, is an author and is involved in a variety of ministries including The Women of Faith Conference, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the Gaither Homecoming Team, The Urban Alternative, The Brooklyn Tabernacle and Precept Ministries International.

She currently directs UM’s ensemble Impact, a six-member praise band that travels with her.

The Duncan McCall Pipe Band from Pensacola, Fla., will also take the stage at StarLight. And the UMS-Wright Choir will make a special appearance.

UM groups performing include: University Singers, Voices of Mobile, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Sounds of Mobile, Barbershop Quartet, Beautyshop Quartet, Opera Workshop, Ram Corps, Upper Room Dinner Theatre, and Alicia and Impact.

In case of rain, StarLight will be held at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile.
