A Christian man in Pakistan has been charged with blasphemy over a Facebook post.
The Christian Post reported that the man made a theological argument on Facebook that offended some Muslims. The man was arrested on August 5 and charged with making derogatory remarks toward Islam or Muhammad. Those were the same charges leveled against Pakistani Christian mother Asia Bibi, who was sentenced to death and spent years in prison before being acquitted and released in 2018.
Pakistan ranks No. 5 on Open Doors’ 2020 World Watch List of countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian. One Pakistani rights activist estimates there are as many as 200 people jailed in Pakistan on blasphemy charges—more than in all other countries combined.
