LAHORE, Pakistan — Pakistan’s television regulatory body has now made it illegal to air Christian TV channels in the nation, a move that affects 11 stations and has already seen at least six cable operators arrested.
All but 2 of the 11 stations are operated from outside the country, but the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) is cracking down on the networks that continue to air them, according to The Christian Post. The two local Christian stations — Isaac TV and Catholic TV — also have been shut down by PEMRA.
Pakistan is home to about 2.8 million Christians. (TAB)
