Rembert: Christians are called to be ministers of reconciliation

“I thank God for this theme. I love anytime the word of God is being explained and revealed to us compelled to share the gospel and to be ministers of reconciliation,” said Dewayne Rembert, pastor of Flatline Church at Chisholm.

Rembert: Christians are called to be ministers of reconciliation

Montgomery Baptist Association pastor Dewayne Rembert was excited about being asked to provide a theme interpretation on “Compelled to be Ministers of Reconciliation” during the afternoon session of the Alabama Baptist State Convention annual meeting on Nov. 11 at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville.

“I thank God for this theme. I love anytime the Word of God is being explained and revealed to us compelled to share the gospel and to be ministers of reconciliation,” said Rembert, pastor of Flatline Church at Chisholm in Montgomery.

And why is it so important to Rembert? “I didn’t hear the gospel until Feb. 2, 2002, at 11:17 a.m. when I was 26 years old. For 25 years, I didn’t know about the reconciling love of Jesus Christ,” he said.

“It’s important that we as Christians be ministers of reconciliation. We’re called by God to do it,” he affirmed, adding that it applies to all Christians, not just pastors.

Rembert observed there are three truths (God is sovereign, God loves us and God is good) which can be pulled from the convention’s theme verse, “For Christ’s love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: If one died for all, then all died” (2 Cor. 5:14).

He examined the word “compel.”  To be compelled is when “Christ motivates us to do something.” Rembert observed that motivation is key. “We can do great things for the Lord but if our reason for doing it is not in line with Christ’s motives, it does not bring Him glory.

“When you have a clear view of Christ’s love for the lost, you’re going to always want to share Jesus with people.”

Rembert said it broke his heart after he was saved when he discovered around him people who knew about Jesus but never shared it with him. “We have to allow God to break our hearts and pay attention to the people around us because they need this Jesus that we’ve got.”

The Montgomery pastor also observed that reconciliation “is simply making right a broken relationship. Christ came to reconcile us back to God the Father as we go and share the love of Christ with others so they can be reconciled with Christ.

“That is God’s heartbeat.”
