The mission of 94-year-old Christina Crawford has been to bring her friends and others to know Jesus as Savior. During World War II, she was superintendent of the Sunday School division for the 8 year olds (totaling 88 youngsters) at First Baptist Church, Chickasaw, in Mobile Baptist Association. She and the teachers for that division visited in all 88 homes and placed a Bible in each one. She also taught Sunbeams. Then at Old Plateau Baptist Church, Plateau, which later relocated and became Lafitte Baptist Church, Saraland, she was a Sunday School teacher. At all three churches, she has been involved in Woman’s Missionary Union and continues to host meetings.
Q: What influences in your life pointed you to Christ at the beginning of your faith journey?
A: My mother. She was a prayer warrior. I don’t ever remember not being in church. She was faithful to her Lord. I gave my life at 7 years old to the Lord.
Q: When and how were you led into ministry work?
A: Because I always went to church, I was asked to do something. And when I was asked to do something, I did it.
Q: What does the ministry work demand?
A: Wherever I am, I’m pretty much a person to ask them if they know the Lord. Sometimes I get turned off. But you go on and ask again.
Q: What do you get from the ministry work?
A: I get a fulfillment of life with joy and happiness. I think that’s the only way you can be happy is to be in the Lord’s work. The fulfillment comes with serving the Lord.
Q: How do family members support you?
A: They are always there for me. (Daughter) Nancy has taken me to WMU. The church has been wonderful to me.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I want to be as active as I can as long as the Lord lets me live.
Q: What difference will the ministry work make for you in the future?
A: I want to be faithful to my Lord in all that I do. I want to be faithful to go to church as long as I can.
Q: What difference has Jesus Christ made in your life?
A: I now have the desire to serve Him and to put Him first in my life.
